Requests

Great interview with Jeff--nice to hear from such a great captain, player, and person again. I'll second OG's request to hear from the Bus, and I'll add Lake Dawson and Irv Smith to that list.

Oh, and Aaron, your Lou impression? Umm . . . you might want to call in Pendergast next time.

The fundamentals of blocking and tackling

Weis' use of minimal contact during spring and fall practice cost us in blocking and tackling effectiveness.

Number ones need to go against number ones in physical contact drills and scrimmages.

Hopefully, in the future, technique and the fundamentals along considerably more contact (hitting) are emphasized in spring and fall practice.

And when the job isn't getting done during the season, "batting practices" drills need to be used.

ND

It appears that all of ND's disgruntled fans have forgotten the 2007 pre-season predictions of virtually every media service. The consensus prediction was that ND would start 0-8 and finish 4-8. The services obviously believed that ND was severely understaffed and inexperienced. Primary reasons given: A. only two (2)experienced offensive linemen (one a sophomore)on the entire depth chart; B. No experienced QB's.(Remember that Sharpley had very little playing time and that none of the other QB's had any playing time.); C. 7 seniors; 13 juniors; together, not even a normal single recruiting class; D. Very difficult early schedule, especially for such an inexperienced team.

So far, except for the UCLA game, the consensus prediction has been pretty much on the money.

As ND fans, we get to see nearly every ND game (Hooray, TV contract for those alums not contributing $100,000 per year) We see all of ND's flaws, real or perceived - whether by the players or the coaches. Each of those flaws seem magnified with repeated viewings. However, have any of you ND fans watched Nebraska this year? Talk about reasons for being disgruntled! Did any of you fans see this week's Missouri/Oklahoma game? Or the Arizona State/Washington game? Did you fans see those player & coaching errors? Plain & simple - - reasons for suicide. And did any of you ND fans see the mistakes made by Boston College this weekend? Well, there were plenty of them such as 15 penalties and an interception from a Heisman candidate - - and BC is a very talented, well-coached team.
I urge you ND fans to consider all of the above and take a deep breath. Neither Weis nor his assistants are idiots. They will get it right and this team will rise like a Phoenix in the coming years.

Replacing Clausen

I have no problem with the switch, heck, from the spring game I felt Sharpley was the right man for the job. What is wrong with letting this super star sit on the bench, watch Sharpley, as Sharpley watched Quinn play, learn, get an understanding of the speed, and learn the playbook more. The way I see it, Sharpley should finish the year, start next year, let Clausen come in on some win win situations ala Tebow, Hand the reins over to Clausen his junior year, after two years of Clausen, turn em over to Crist. Sharpley moves the team, Charlie opens up the play book more, the ball gets thrown down field more (with authority) and our all american Carleson actually gets the ball. I'm all for the growing pains, I just think we would grow faster with Sharpley in the game.

Clausen vs the other QB

Clausen should start everygame every play for the next four years ( Quinn had 4 interceptions his rookie year) ...as an old head coach of 30+ years...when your getting your butt kicked each game you play the players (YOUNG ONES) that WILL bring you wins in the future!!! Sharpless should have had 2 or 3 interceptions ...and was LUCKY...Clausen's "TEAM" he qb'd ... BEAT UCLA at UCLA...just last week!! Does that WIN not count?? FOOTBALL IS NOT GOLF!!! It was a TEAM LOSS!!!! and a TEAM WIN !! Quit ripping Clausen...if the stinking O line could BLOCK.. ND could run the ball down teams throats like Lou did..!!They can NOT...block ..BUT...next year WILL !! Next year NOT this year...if Charlies puls JC I am done with Charlie..and I have NEVER said that in 50 years as a FAN of ND !!

I WAS JUST WONDERING

Why is it, upon entering college, everyone was granted a nickname and did not hear their real name called until graduation. For example "A.T" (Aaron Taylor)--"J.B." Jeff Burris or Jerome Bettis depending on who was in the room. If they were both present then Jerome became" J-Boogie" or "Romey-Rome". Anthony Peterson and Peter Bercich (both great Irish LB's) were both nicknamed "Pete". If they were both in the the room, Anthony became "Pete Funk" (origin unknown). Other examples include Kevin McDougal "K-Mack"--Brian Hamilton "B-Ham"--Jim Flanagan "Flan"--Greg Lane "G.Lane"--"T.C." Tommy Carter. Why was it that some guys got initials and a nickname like "B.Y" or "B-Young" (Bryant Young). The strangest thing yet was when coaches and professors actually started addressing you by your newly acquired monicker. I heard "O.G." (darn-you Junior Bryant) so much that I actually hesitated when someone called me Oliver. I always wanted to pick my own nickname like" Big-Sexy" or "Super-passrusher-O". Oh well, I guess you have not truly entered the fold until you have been granted a nickname. I wonder what Coach Holtz's nickname was (Hmmm)? Better yet, what nickname did the legendary offensive line Joe Coach Moore have for you Aarron Matthew Taylor?

Great podcast with Jeff

Chris----oops I mean AT, great interview with J.B (Jeff Burris), its good to hear his voice again. I'm sure he's doing well and look forward to seeing him doing sideline stuff for the networks. I've got a personal request. Since I'm one of you class of 94 homeboys (thereby granting me the right to abuse the friendship and make unreasonable request), I would like to hear from former Irish great and NFL future "Hall of Famer" Jerome Bettis. It would be good to hear his take on his brief college career, and the current state of Irish football. As you say, allow the great Irish fan to be a "fly on the wall" and hear the dialogue between former ND teammates without all of cliche', pretentious, safe statements that we were all trained to make as athletes. What most people may not realize is that Jerome was a member of the class of 94, and even though he "jumped ship" on us for fame, wealth and glory (how dare him) we still love him anyway. How good could that class have been if he stayed. Hmmmmmmmmm? Anyway bru........git-er-dun! OG.....out! (K-Mack the G.O.A.T)
