Taylor's TidbitsIntroducing Johnny IrishThu, 8/16/07 On behalf of everyone here at Legends of South Bend, I want to take a minute to introduce you to an old friend of ours. None of us are quite sure what his real name is … we’ve just always known him as ‘Johnny Irish’. I first met Johnny when I was playing at Notre Dame back in the early 90’s. He always had a knack for showing up at practice and making us laugh with his off-the-wall perspectives and predictions about the other team and the upcoming game. He could also be a little strange sometimes, and nobody was ever really sure if he was actually a student. Johnny also had a way of being real direct, and sometimes he rubbed people the wrong way. But usually, it only bugged you because he was right. And as obnoxious as he could be, his wit and heart and passion for all things Notre Dame always shined through. Over the years, we’ve come to think of him as part of the Legends of South Bend family. And, as you all know, family is family. So we’ve decided to help him out. Johnny’s been a little down on his luck for the last 13 years or so, but he’s committed to turning things around. To help him get there, we agreed to give him a shot at writing a column or two for us every week. We think you’ll enjoy getting to know Johnny too. So be on the lookout for his columns throughout the season. Just remember that while sometimes you might not like what he has to say, you’ll find he always has a point. And even if he doesn’t … well, he’ll be good for a laugh or two. So, without further adieu … Heeeeeeeere’s Johnny! – Aaron Back |
