Taylor's Tidbits

Back to the Future

Wow, you guys! The feedback on what you want to see out of the site has been great. And for those of you that emailed us some suggestions about some things you'd like to see us do this spring and next fall (e.g. live web chats, golf outings, etc.) thank you ... they were great, and keep them coming! Again, this sight is for you, so tell us what you'd like to see and be able to do while you're here, and we'll do our best to make it happen. Who knows, it just may be your suggestion that gets the ball rolling on something really cool next year.

Now let's get down to some bidness. Many of you asked about the offensive line, and I will be breaking them down on Friday, so be sure to check back then. But something I found interesting that a few of you asked about was how injuries to C John Sullivan and NT Pat Kuntz would impact a team that is already desperately thin on talent and leadership. So, I called Johnny Irish and we talked about it a bit, and believe it or not, we actually saw eye to eye for once. Actually, it was more like eye to navel because JI is so short you can see his feet in his driver's license picture. Sorry bro, you know I love ya! Anyway, enjoy the read and be on the look out for the OL breakdown tomorrow.

Ouch!

The 1-9 Irish hobble into their home finale Saturday against equally wounded 1-9 Duke with crushed spirits and, now, a handful of costly injuries as well.

Fifth-year senior center John Sullivan and junior nose tackle Pat Kuntz will miss this Saturday’s game, and to hear Coach Weis talk, the duo will likely also be sidelined for the season finale (and de facto bowl game) at Stanford the following Saturday.

Thanks to Coach Weis’ mysterious insistence on guarding the nature of injuries like they hold the secrets to the DaVinci Code (or at least a really good brownie recipe), we’re not quite sure what exactly is ailing Sully and Kuntz, though they appear to be leg and back injuries, respectfully.

When I first read about these two losses today, my first thought was, “Great. Just what this team needs. Those are a few of the guys that really seem to be playing hard all the time!”

But then, the more I thought about it, the more that sentiment morphed into, “So what? Maybe this is a blessing in disguise.”

IM A GONNA TELL U WHATS WRONG WITH THIS TEAM SEE HOW MANY AGREE

DIE HARD IRISH FAN I LUV MY IRISH BUT HERE IS WHAT I SEE WRONG WITH THE WHOLE SITUATION. FIRST OFF WOODEN HAS TO BE REPLACED SET HIM ON THE BENCH,2ND LEIMPART NUMBER 20 OR 22 HAS TO BE BENCHED,NUMBER 9 ZIBBY EITHER MOVE HIM TO LINEBACKER OR USE HIM ON PUNT RETURNS ONLY.SPEND TWO WHOLE DAYS OF PRACTICE WITH THE OFFENCIVE LINE GOING OVER DIFFERENT BLOCKS GIVE EVERYONE ELSE A DAY OR TWO OFF. CHARLIE HOW ABOUT SOME MORE SWING PASSES AND LET CLAUSEN THROW DOWNFIELD WHATS THE WORST THAT CAN HAPPEN. CHARLIE MIX THE PLAYS UP BETTER MY 7 YEAR OLD GRANDSON KNOWS WHAT YOUR GONNA CALL NEXT COME ON IT REALLY IS JUST FOOTBALL NO MATTER WHAT LEVEL ITS THE SAME GAME.BROCKINGTON IS GOOD FOR A BACKUP ROLL LET THE SOPHS AND FRESHMAN PLAY MORE. WITH THE TALENT U HAVE THERE CHARLIE THERES NO EXCUSES REMEMBER YOUR BOOK NO EXCUSES LETS GO CHARLIE WAKE UP. CHARLIE ON THE SIDE LINES U EVEN LOOK CONFUSED AT TIMES SO DOES YOUR TEAM COACHING IS NOT THAT HARD . TO NOTRE DAME UNIVERSITY I WOULD COACH YOUR FOOTBALL TEAM FOR 50,000 DOLLARS A YEAR FOR TWO YEARS.IF MY TEAM WINS U GIVE ME A TEN YEAR CONTRACT AT 100,000 A YEAR THATS IT ,THEN WE GET OUR IRISH WINNING AGAIN AND IT DOESNT COST THE UNIVERSITY MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IM UP FOR THE CHALLENGE I KNOW MY COACHING ABILLITIES WHAT DO U HAVE TO LOSENOTHING BUT IF I GET OUR TEAM TO A BOWL GAME U STAND TO WIN MILLIONS FOR THE UNIVERSITY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IRISH

KID NATION

I couldn't agree more. I was at the game and Williams looked pretty good in there. Wenger looks like a perfect center as well. Besides the high snaps, Sully looks like a fat a$$ out there.

I'd like to hear the sites comments on Size and O-line men. I guess you have to be big, but I've seen teams like the Denver Broncos do it with small and quick guys. Maybe take quickness over size? The whole o-line is over 300, but they don't seem to have any quickness of feet.

wenger /clausen

Prediction..... fumbled snap to open offensive series. Just the way the year has gone.

back to the....

I'd also like to see Stewart play for Duncan. Keep #26 on the bench along with #9. #90 can have a seat too, I've never seen an OLB not want to run over a RB while on a blitz, he stops dead in his tracks everytime, put someone else in there and lets see how they play the same situation. Also, no more #54 or #20,#22. I'd let #52 in there but as a backup, he plays hard but doesnt have the speed, lets see someone else. I know we're real thin on the D-line so not much you can do opposite Laws, this is gonna be a real problem next year at the DE's.

Wenger is going to do just fine

A lot of football is chemistry and the chemistry looks to be there between Wengner and Clausen.

I project that Clausen will play with more confidence with Wegner under Center. That confidence should result in more leadership from Clausen than we have seen before.

I look for Clausen to have a very productive day and have full confidence that Wenger is going to do just fine.

Strange Year All Around

In the past few years, I spent my computer time on the ND blog sites trying to figure out where we were in the BCS rankings and what bowl we'd be going to. But this year will be remembered as the year Michigan lost to App. St., USC lost to Stanford and ND lost to Navy and ranked last in offensive production. It was a strange year from the beginning.

Since there hasn't been much good news this year, it was refreshing to read the story about Young wanting to step up and help the team. If he infects his teammates with this desire, the only way to go is up.

Hopefully we get these last 2 wins and the '08 and '09 campaigns make this weird season merely a bad memory.

Thanks to Aaron & JI for a great site to log on to even in these bad times.

Thank you, Joisey!

Its been a helluva year, but we'll be back stronger than ever next year. And so will the team ;)
