Taylor's Tidbits

Significance Of Recruiting Weekend

As many of you know, I will the have honor of speaking at this year’s football banquet on Friday. It also happens to be the football program’s big recruiting weekend, and I cannot overlook the immense responsibility (and pressure) I feel to share from my experience and make whatever impact I can … as I know just how special a night this will be for current players and recruits alike.

When I was first asked to speak several weeks ago, my first thought was, “Wow. Am I that old?!”. My second thought was, “What in the world am I going to say to a group of players, fans, and future Domers that have just been through one of the worst seasons in Notre Dame history?”. After I thought about it a while, though, the answer became quite clear, as did many of the memories from my own recruiting weekend (more on that later this week, as I will be posting part of my speech online on Friday morning before the banquet). And as I nostalgically reminisced about the significance of my own first trip into South Bend in December of 1990, I realized that that weekend, and the corresponding decision to come to Notre Dame, was the most important in my life … just as it will be for the young men who are on campus thinking about making their own decision on where to attend college.

thanks aaron

i have been a die hard notre dame fan since 1964,and although this has been a very down year as far back as i can remember i think big chas( charlie weis is the right man for the job,yes he has made plenty of goofy calls this year but i think his play calling was disstracted by all the fresh blood he has.i think he is getting alot of good kids comming in and im predicting a 8 and 4 season or better for 2008.this team has no idea how good it is going too be i cant wait, and i hope somehow i see u on the sidelines helping and leading these wonderfull talented kids too a national championship for that is all they need someone too lead them good luck luv your web site and good luck irish forever GOOOOOOOOOO IRISH

Speech

You know why they want you to give that speech? I can assure you this, it has nothing to do with age, it has everything to do with that you "get" what it is to have played on some great teams and with some great players. I have a feeling that you will be excellent tonight and I wish I could be a fly in there and listen to your speech.

Go Irish!

Aaron

Dude, after reading that article, i know you'll do just fine with your speech and hopefully be able to reel in a few more commits.

speech

I'd say imagine the crowd naked, but with CW and no brady quinns in attendance I don't know.

See you there!

It's going to be an interesting banquet. I'm sure that the mood will be pretty good in spite of the season because why would anyone want to spend $45 to be in a bad mood? I'm looking forward to your speech (and seeing Trevor Laws win the MVP award).

p.s. Bring your parka...we've got snow.

My bet is a very thoughtful speech

If I may suggest a question to include for the recruits: What do you hope to have accomplished after the last play of the last game of your last year?

You have been there and I am sure your guiding light will illumine the way, Aaron. Your spirit will lift everyone. I hope they choose one of the many doors to enter at Notre Dame. Go Irish!

Aaron

Can't think of a more qualified or well-intended speaker. Hopefully your enthusiasm and feeling for ND will be absorbed by these young guys. Just speak the truth, brother!

1993-94

Good luck on the speech, Aaron. You'll do a great job, no doubt.

Best stat about your class--every single guy started a game. That says no wasted scholarships, and every single recruit worked his tail off. I've never seen an update, but I'm betting it's never happened since then. Just another reason I'm proud to have the same year on my diploma. . .

Your speech

I would love to see a video of that after the fact.

Man, I'm sorry, but we gotta have you log in. That's so we don't get spammed. Appreciate your understanding.
